IAER ROADMAP DEVELOPMENT
Objectives
- build an effective and efficient infrastructure for the Electronics Recycling Industry
- to continue the development of an Industry Roadmap as a follow-up to last year's successful workshop.
- focus on problems, needs and challenges to develop common solutions
- facilitate Projects, Programs and Partnerships to address those solutions

Cooperative Approach to Industrial Ecology - Case Study
- Addresses the challenges faced by communities to reduce solid waste quantities and increase opportunities for reuse and recycling
- Based on the experience of industry, business, government and academia leaders from the Southern Tier of New York State formed the Aurora Project...a regional eco-industrial alliance.
- A not-for-profit entity striving to improve the regional economy through shared business efficiencies in the handling of by-products and waste materials
- Pursuing economic development and initiatives leading to both improved environmental performance and increased business success.

MANAGEMENT of OBSOLETE COMPUTER & ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT (REUSE - Not For Profits)
Educational Assistance Ltd. (EAL) is a national nonprofit organization that takes donations from corporations and distributes them to their network of reuse and recycling for the benefit of higher education.
Included are tips on how to identify the right nonprofit to work with and where to go for information on computer donations.

- Identify opportunities for use of glass in non-CRT applications
INFRASTRUCTURE
- San Francisco Working Group - continue follow-up actions
- Develop terminology/clarifications for public & industry with respect to regulations (e.g., CRTs)
INDUSTRIAL ECOLOGY
- Aurora Project - continue progress
- Capture & disseminate model & methodology (e.g., web sites)
- Tie to Infrastructure focus area
DESIGN FOR REUSE & RECYCLING
- Establish a joint project (IAER + NEMI + ISRI + Stakeholder Dialogue):
- Develop design guidelines & process for maintaining them
- Start with a dialogue/forum of Recyclers & OEMs
RE-USE (Not for Profits)
- EAL - continue ongoing mission
- Pursue opportunities with new programs - e.g., Retail, OEM
- Establish an organization for Reuse agencies (at the national level)
- Develop & deploy an educational program - e.g., for small businesses
- Identify potential funding sources to support programs
- Start with a Forum (EAL take the lead)
