Electronics Recycling SUMMIT®

BACKGROUND

A group of industry organizations, led by the International Association of Electronics Recyclers (IAER), created a new series of events for electronics industry leaders, environmental professionals, recycling companies and government and non-government organizations. The Electronics Recycling SUMMIT® is sponsored by the IAER as an annual event held in conjunction with related industry events and meetings. The first Electronics Recycling SUMMIT® was held in conjunction with the IEEE International Symposium on Electronics and the Environment (ISEE), the premier technical conference in its field, on May 8-10, 2000 in San Francisco, CA. The second Electronics Recycling SUMMIT® was held in conjunction with the EPR2 Conference in Washington, DC on April 17-20, 2001. The 3rd Electronics Recycling SUMMIT was held in conjunction with the 10th International Symposium on Electronics and the Environment (ISEE) on May 6-9, 2002 in San Francisco, CA. As a follow-up to the success of the 2002 event, the IAER established a partnership with the IEEE to co-sponsor the 4th Electronics Recycling SUMMIT® in conjunction with the International Symposium on Electronics and the Environment/ISEE on May 19-22, 2003 in Boston, MA and future annual events.

The ISEE/SUMMIT Event

The ISEE/SUMMIT has become “THE” major international event on the environment and recycling related to electronics. It provides an opportunity for the electronics industry and the electronics recycling industry to share technical and scientific knowledge, as well as the latest operational and management strategies, business practices, and regulatory concerns.  The event brings together engineers, managers, electronics recyclers, and others engaged in research, development, manufacturing, and recycling of electronic products. It features the most comprehensive and highest quality coverage of the environmental and recycling aspects of electronics and is organized by a large international committee of experts.

The Electronics Recycling SUMMIT® (held in conjunction with the ISEE Conference) is intended to be the next step in building the recycling infrastructure for the electronics industry. For all the stakeholders and interested parties related to the issues and opportunities involved in the recycling of electronics products, this event:

· Focuses on the challenges of building an efficient and effective infrastructure.

· Fosters the collaboration of the industry, government, and academic sectors towards common goals.

· Provides a unique opportunity for attendees to participate in multiple high caliber meetings and events at one location and time.

The Electronics Recycling SUMMIT® has come to be recognized as THE major event on electronics recycling, drawing the largest and broadest-based attendance from all the sectors involved. The results of these events have led to consensus and actions in a wide variety of areas that address the needs and challenges of electronics recycling. The SUMMIT process is sustained by collaboration between a group of organizations that share an interest in supporting electronics recycling – the Electronics Recycling Collaboration Network (ERCN).
